
David McGill, Consultant Plastic Surgeon
David McGill is a consultant plastic surgeon with over a decade of experience in plastic surgery. He is a consultant at the internationally renowned Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow, where he specialises in breast reconstruction surgery and children’s plastic surgery. His cosmetic practice is based in clinics at La Belle Forme (Glasgow), SK:N clinic (Glasgow) and at the Glasgow Nuffield and BMI Rosshall Hospitals.He offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures that can be tailored to suit your needs. He is a fully accredited plastic surgeon who is on the GMC specialist register for plastic surgery (GMC number 4509905) and is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Biography
David McGill qualified in medicine from the University of Aberdeen in 1998 and began his training in general surgery and orthopaedics in Aberdeen. He then developed his interest in plastic surgery after moving to Edinburgh, and at this time gained his membership exam in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. Following this he went to the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow, where he completed a medical doctorate (MD) with clinical research in laser surgery and burns. This research has been widely published in medical literature and presented both nationally and internationally.His higher surgical training took place in plastic surgery units in Birmingham, Edinburgh and finally Glasgow, where he received specialist training in breast reconstruction, reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. At the end of this he passed the intercollegiate Fellowship exam in Plastic Surgery and was then appointed as a Consultant in the internationally-renowned Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit.
David McGill has a busy NHS practice that encompasses breast reconstruction, skin cancer reconstruction, hand and limb trauma and children’s plastic surgery. In addition, he has a long-standing interest in surgical training, with previous involvement in the plastic surgery trainees association and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and has recently been appointed as one of two lead trainers in the plastic surgery department in Glasgow. He is also a representative on the Scottish BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) committee. Finally, he regularly teaches on the microsurgery, flap dissection, and exam courses run in Glasgow for Plastic Surgeons from around the world.
Following on from his previous research degree, he has an ongoing research interest into wound healing and the harvesting and differentiation of stem cells. Currently he is working with the Institute for Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Glasgow and with the department of Bioengineering at Strathclyde University to develop these areas of interest.
His cosmetic surgery practice is based in La Belle Forme (Glasgow) clinic, with admitting rights to both the Nuffield Hospital (Glasgow) and the BMI Rosshall Hospital. He also has a regular clinic at SK:N clinic (Glasgow), where he offers a range of non-surgical treatments and laser treatments. He is happy to receive referrals at all of these locations.
