The Natural Look in Breast Implant Surgery

Like most people reading this, you've probably seen plenty of pictures of celebrities who have had boob jobs done, and in many cases wondered why on earth they went for such an unnatural look. Images of grinning starlets with unnatural looking breasts are remarkably common, but the majority of women that we treat prefer a natural look when choosing breast implants. In essence, most women want to be thought of as beautiful in a natural way, not in a way that defies nature, and images of impossible breasts make many women think twice about breast enlargement surgery.
Experienced plastic surgeons like La Belle Forme clinic's Taimur Shoaib and David McGill will guide you through your options and the various stages involved in breast augmentation, ensuring that you are aware of the best choices for your particular needs. In the end, it is possible to achieve a convincingly natural look and feel that will make it difficult for somebody to tell if you have breast implants or not.
In achieving this natural look and feel, your surgeon will consider a variety of important issues, such as which type of breast implants best suit you, where to position the implants, and which type of surgical procedure to use.
At La Belle Forme the ideal of achieving a natural look is taken very seriously, and breast augmentation surgery is only undertaken once a thorough consultation has been completed in order to establish what is best for a specific individual.
What Are The Best Breast Implants?
Fourth generation form stable silicone gel implants are generally favoured, as these breast implants are cohesive gel, which means the implants will never leak silicone. The implants are also biodimensional, which means your plastic surgeon will take measurements of you at the time of consultation and ask you what your requirements are.Using a combination of breast measurements and desired results, you and your surgeon will choose an implant that has the right width and projection for your breast augmentation surgery. The breast implants recommended may be round but, if after your consultation you and your surgeon feel you would benefit from anatomical implants (also known as teardrop implants), there is the possibility of using the McGhan 410 range, which are also biodimensional. Saline implants are also an option if that is what you would prefer.
The commonly held view is that anatomical implants have a more natural look than round breast implants, but this isn't necessarily so, and it is important to choose what is right for you and your body shape.
What Is A Breast Implant Pocket?
The breast implants need to be placed within a pocket. There are three types of pocket and the best place to put the implant depends on the characteristics of the breast being enhanced, the implant being used and the desired look. You and your surgeon will discuss this at the time of your consultation. The submuscular pocket is often referred to as 'under the muscle', as the pocket is made under the pectoral muscle of the chest wall. This pocket is often used in women who have minimal breast tissue, so that the top of the implant is hidden under as much of your own tissues as possible to prevent a sharp take-off of the breast and to reduce the chances of the implant being felt or seen. However, it can lead to the muscle being pushed forward on top of breast tissue, which slides down as time goes by. This can lead to a 'double bubble' problem where there are two bulges on the chest wall which may need further surgery for correction.
The subglandular pocket is often referred to as one which is made 'on top of the muscle'. The 'sub' part of subglandular means 'under' and the 'glandular' part refers to the breast itself. So, the subglandular pocket is made under the breast, on top of the muscle. This pocket is often used when there is already a reasonable amount of breast tissue in someone who has little projection but is generally flat. It can also work well in someone who already has a reasonable breast volume but simply wants to be larger and is also used when someone wants to have an enhanced look following their surgery.
The dual plane pocket is one that is made partially on top of the muscle and partially under the muscle. It involves splitting and releasing the muscle at exactly the right point so that you can have the benefits of having some of the implant above the muscle and some of the implant below it. This is often used in women who have a low take-off and little tissue in the upper pole of the breast.
Which Is The Best Incision For Breast Implants?
As far as surgical procedures are concerned, deciding where to make the incision and why is of vital importance. The incision is where the surgeon makes the cut in the skin so that the breast implants can be inserted. A breast augmentation may be performed using a number of incisions, and the incision used depends on patient preference, the type of breast implant used and conclusions drawn from discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the various incisions available. An inframammary fold (IMF) incision is one placed near the region where the breast tissue meets the chest wall. This incision is usually very well hidden after the procedure and for most breast implant sizes the length of the incision is limited to a few centimetres.
A nipple lift or breast uplifting procedure can be performed at the same time as a breast augmentation. In these cases, your incisions will be placed all the way around the nipple and may go down the breast and along the inframammary fold at the same time, either as a round incision, a lollipop shaped incision or an anchor shaped incision. The type of incision during a combined lift and augmentation depends on how much lift needs to be done, whether the size of the nipple needs to be reduced at the same time, and how much of the shape of the breast needs to be changed.
In essence then, the three main factors to consider when looking at breast augmentation are which type of implants to choose, where to position the implants, and which kind of incision to make in order to place the implants inside the body. Each one of these choices is important, and each one can play an important part in contributing to a desirable, natural look.
At La Belle Forme, your plastic surgeon will pay careful attention to you and your wishes and then discuss in detail with you the best way forward. Achieving a natural look and feel with breast implant surgery is not just a possibility; at La Belle Forme it's what you can expect, and what you can be sure you'll get.
