La Belle Forme are considered to be one of Scotland’s leading Dermatology clinics. Led by Consultant Dermatologist Dr Khalid Hussain, we have three core clinics within our Glasgow practice, these include:
- Skin Cancer Clinic
- Mole Clinic
- Acne Clinic
A unique aspect of our surveillance service is early intervention. In cases where we detect problems, which in some cases can be significant, immediate intervention can take place to cut out the area of concern. On the same day the specimen has been removed, it is sent to a local lab, with results normally returned within 48 hours.
A brief description of the services we offer are listed below:
Skin Cancer Clinics
As many of us have moved towards a more active lifestyle with people taking up outdoor activities to improve their health and wellbeing, we have increased our risk of skin cancer. The main cause of skin cancers is exposure to damaging UV light that the sun produces and to which we are exposed on a daily basis. Other artificial sources of UV light, such as sunlamps and tanning beds, also increase your risk of developing skin cancer, as does repeated sunburn.
There are other contributory factors such as family history. Although it is not a major risk factor, some families have a higher than the average number of members who develop this condition. If this applies to you please undertake routine checks with a dermatologist.
As with any cancer, early detection and treatment are key. We offer a see and treat service where, if you have suspected skin cancer, you can meet with a dermatologist. If there is anything untoward a qualified plastic surgeon can excise (cut out) and suspicious lesions; and we can get the specimen to a local lab the same day. Test results are normally within 48 hours.
In most cases, we are pleased to say that lesions that are cut out are not malignant, but there is peace of mind in knowing that everything is OK.
Our Mole Clinic provides you with an assessment of moles and pigmented lesions you may be concerned about. In most cases, moles are just benign coloured growth on the surface of the skin and are nothing to worry about. Moles normal appear during childhood and adolescence and are normally stable in size and colour when you reach adulthood. If you have moles that start to change colour, size or become broken on the surface you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.
Unlike other mole clinics held in pharmacies or beauty salons, at our clinic, a dermatologist will review your moles and investigate in detail any that may be of concern. As with our skin cancer clinic, these can be removed and sent for analysis the same day.
Dermatology Services – Acne Clinics
Many people think acne is something that happens to teenagers during puberty but it is one of the most common skin conditions and it affects most people at some point, some quite significantly.
Acne can be caused by a range of issues from, hormonal imbalances, lifestyle issues, medication, allergies and many other issues. The key is to establish the root cause of the condition and if possible get it treated effectively, which may mean several visits to our clinic.
In some cases, there may be treatment required after the acne itself has been resolved to address skin irregularities or scarring that has occurred and we can also help with this.
