As we age the skin around our eyes loses a certain amount of elasticity and muscles begin to relax which can result in hooded upper eye lids. For some patients this can often be coupled with fat build-up which can contribute towards the appearance of tiredness and bags under the eyes. The reasons some people are more prone to saggy skin around the eye may simply be genetics, other contributing factors may also be stress or poor sleeping patterns sustained over a long period of time.
Upper eyelid surgery can be performed under local anesthetic and generally takes around 30-45 minutes. Lower eyelid surgery is often performed under sedation or general anaesthesia. Eyelid surgery is frequently performed in conjunction with non-surgical treatments, such as fillers, to give patients a more youthful or ‘fresh’ appearance.
