Rhinoplasty - Nose Job

Rhinoplasty – often referred to a nose job – is performed to correct a structural deformity and to improve your appearance by making subtle changes to the nose size and shape.

Our noses are one of the most defining features of our face and how it looks can have a huge impact on our overall look and as a result, our confidence. If you are not happy with your nose or have suffered a previous injury that has left your nose crooked or uneven, Rhinoplasty can modify the size, shape and appearance.

Are you considering Rhinoplasty surgery?

Rhinoplasty can change many things about your nose, including your nose size to bring it in proportion with the rest of you facial features, your nose width at the bridge, the size and position of the nostrils, and nose profile (by downsizing visible humps, bumps or depressions on the bridge). Rhinoplasty can also reshape the nasal tip, improve the appearance of large, wide or upturned nostrils and correct nasal asymmetry.

There are several types of Rhinoplasty including two primary methods. “Open” Rhinoplasty involves making surgical incisions in the columella, the vertical skin separating the nostrils, and the soft tissue is elevated to reveal the nasal anatomy. “Closed” Rhinoplasty is for more minor reshaping and incisions are made within the nostrils to expose the bone and cartilage, which can be removed and reshaped to achieve the desired look.

Safety and Welfare

It is important to understand the potential risks associated with Rhinoplasty procedures. After a Rhinoplasty, some patients experience an altered sense of smell, while others find that their nasal breathing is affected.  Minor bleeding is common while heavy bleeding is very rare but can be severe. Some patients experience pain for a number of weeks.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

You will likely be excited to reveal your new nose, but it is essential to remember that complete results are not always immediate and can take up to a year to become fully evident. You will likely experience some discomfort, which can be controlled with pain medicine.  Swelling will start to decrease after the splint is removed and will continue to do so for up to one year. You will need to allow two weeks off work for recovery and avoid strenuous exercise for four to six weeks.
